Today’s exhortation 15/5/2018
The Game Changer
Making plans and decisions can be downright exhausting! Sometime back, I was running on auto-pilot, making life’s plans and strategizing when this scripture stopped me right in my tracks! It’s very easy to get lost in the world we live in, making plans and using our ‘God-given’ brains so much so that we tend to forget the brains were given by God (Selah!)
Psalms 44:1-3 (NKJV)
We have heard with our ears, O God,
Our fathers have told us,
The deeds You did in their days,
In days of old:
2 You drove out the nations with Your hand,
But them You planted;
You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out.
3 For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword,
Nor did their own arm save them;
But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance,
Because You favoured them
This was a testimony of God’s deliverance for the Israelites. This was before they entered the promised land. Remember that God asked them to go and He will deliver the land to them? He made good His promise. But one thing you will note is that God saved them because He favoured them.
We sometimes forget the place of favour in our plans and strategy. We say to ourselves “I will do ABC to get XYZ result”, so we go ahead and do them. That’s good, in fact, that’s commendable! Verse 3 of the scripture above talks about them not gaining possession by their own sword, in order words, they had swords! They were battle ready! They had arms and they were strengthened. Meaning they were ready to fight!
So yes, the place of preparation and having plans to work with is absolutely important. But beyond the plans, you need God’s favour. It is that favour that will cause the light of His countenance (in order words His shining on you) to shine on you. It’s that favour that will cause the swords that you hold to be wielded in the right way for you to defend your enemy and gain possession of the land.
Ecclesiastes 9:11 (NLT)
11 I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.
Chance is an opportunity or a possibility. I call that “chance” the favour of God. How do you get to be in the right place at the right time? As a child of God, that doesn’t ‘just happen’, it’s nothing but the favour of God. If you take away the favour of God from that scripture above, it only leaves you with probability, a case of if it happens, it happens. God forbid!
God’s favour is the game changer. I encourage you to factor in Gods favour in everything you do. Be conscious of the truth that His favour is the determining factor in all that you do. And not just when you seek promotion. Know that His favour is the game changer and if you’re like me, you need that game changer every single day! Speak God’s favour over your life daily. Speak His favour over the works of your hands. Speak His favour over your family. Keep speaking it. And as you sharpen your swords and hone your skills, may His favour give you the preferred advantage you need to win in life in Jesus name. Amen
