And behold, a woman who was a Canaanite from that district came out and, with a [loud, troublesome urgent] cry, begged, Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is miserably and distressingly and cruelly possessed by a demon! BUT HE DID NOT ANSWER HER A WORD. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, send her away, for she is crying out after us (Matthew 15:22-23 AMPC).
Beloved, have you ever been in a situation where you desperately need the Lord’s intervention and it seems like He is giving you the silent treatment? Does it mean He doesn’t want you to bother Him and hopes that somehow you would eventually get the memo? I don’t think so, but what do you do when you cry out to Jesus and get no response? This woman was in a desperate situation and begged Jesus to help but He ignored her. But did she give up? No! She pumped up the volume until she became a nuisance to His disciples.
That’s the kind of prayer that would make people not want to sit next to you in church because they know you would disturb their comfort. The kind of prayer you will pray not mindful who is next to you but just desperately in need of an intervention. This was the Canaanite woman’s case. But that still didn’t do it. Jesus basically said that as an outsider, she wasn’t on His agenda. However, she still didn’t give up. What did she do?… Then she came and WORSHIPED HIM, saying, “Lord, help me!” (Matthew 15:25 NKJV)
Beloved, are you in church but yet an outsider to Jesus. Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ? Or you just go for what you can get from the throne of Grace? Why are you seeking Him?
She WORSHIPED HIM. Worship Him in truth and in Spirit and connect with the heavens. When you’ve done everything you know how to do, Don’t give up. Just WORSHIP HIM. Most times, it takes the silent time of the Lord to bring out the worshipper in us and establish a true relationship with Jesus.
Jesus taught a lesson in humility. Jesus said… “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” (Matthew 15:26 NKJV). A proud person would say “please don’t insult me because I’m begging you for help”. But not this woman. She knew Jesus was her only solution so she humbled herself and she continued to appeal to his mercy and grace (unmerited favour)… And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! LET IT BE TO YOU AS YOU DESIRE.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour (Matthew 15:27-28 NKJV).
Beloved, what did it. PERSISTENCE, WORSHIP… HUMILITY… APPEALING TO HIS GRACE AND MERCY… kept her faith going and brought about her heart desires and a true encounter and relationship with Jesus! SEEK JESUS TRULY!
