Today’s Exhortation 26th of July 2019
Psalm 114 (New International Version)
1 When Israel came out of Egypt,
Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,
2 Judah became God’s sanctuary,
Israel his dominion.
3 The sea looked and fled,
the Jordan turned back;
4 the mountains leaped like rams,
the hills like lambs.
5 Why was it, sea, that you fled?
Why, Jordan, did you turn back?
6 Why, mountains, did you leap like rams,
you hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 who turned the rock into a pool,
the hard rock into springs of water.
As a child, we lived in a house once where the landlord lived in the same compound. One Sunday we came back from church and he was on the balcony. Immediately he saw my dad, he started apologizing. It was random – nothing had happened. But he started saying He was sorry and didn’t know the type of person my dad was.
My dad isn’t extra special. He is a Christian. He had Christ living in his heart and that made all the difference.
Are you a Christian? Then the same thing applies to you. The presence of God abides with you. In fact you are a temple/sanctuary of the living God. He is domiciled in you and what happens when you appear on the scene, the sea should look and flee, mountains and hills should begin to give way.
Why? You might ask. Simply because the presence of the Lord causes things to shift, circumstances to give way, difficulties to melt.
At the presence of the God of Jacob who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.
Don’t doubt it. Simply believe it. See yourself as a carrier of God’s presence. Acknowledge this truth (Philemon 1:6). Things should flee when you appear not the other way round.
I am a Christian, I carry the presence of the Lord. When I appear, because the greater one lives on the inside of me (1 John 4:4), the earth trembles, rocks are turned into pools and hard rocks into springs of water.
