1 Samuel 17:1-58

Verse 29: And David said, “What have I done now? Was it not but a word?”

The story of David and Goliath is a biblical favorite of many. The underdog comes out of the blues and defeats a mighty man who many (all) were afraid of. The story is atypical of many battles the children of God face.
Problems loom seemingly large and threaten every morning. For some sleep is the only time when they are able to rest. Once they wake up in the morning, the problem like Goliath boasts and does not keep quiet until they fall asleep. For some even in their sleep they are terrified. 1 Samuel 17:24 declares the men of Israel were sore afraid. My brethren this ought not to be so.

Jesus seeing a woman bent over for 18 years declared in Luke 13:16, “And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?”; David declared “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine to defile the armies of the living God”. I hope like David, you are not allowing the enemy to shut your mouth. At this time, instead of quaking in fear, look for your tools like David.

He declared but did not stay in one spot. His talk got him an appointment with the king. Following which he ditched the king’s apparel and went looking for his implements. Like David, we should visit the river of life and search out scriptures which are able to build us up and give us an inheritance among the saints.

Faith put action to His words. He declared and then he went. We all know the end of the story, Goliath with all his ‘words’ and stature was felled by little David. The outcome is the same for God’s children. We are not to quake in fear and remain in one spot, coming out every morning to assess the problem. We are to stand tall, recount God’s previous deeds to us; (Verse 34) and declare the outcome of the situation (verse 46) and then go to act. Seek for a word and use that to fell the giants that are taunting us.

David was bold and courageous and as God’s children, this should be our default mode. Standing up to the ‘giants’ in our lives reveals they are nothing but dressed up midgets. And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Col 2:15 The word of God has been declared and we are victorious if we use our armor and maintain the victory Christ has wrought for us.
What is that situation taunting you? Do not be quiet. Do not be shaken. Our God has given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness and the battles of our warfare are not carnal but are mighty through God to bring down every stronghold.
Like David, go in the strength of His might and watch the giants come crumbling down!
