Today’s exhortation 20/03/18
“If I had a little red box,
I’ll put my Jesus in
I’ll bring Him out
And kiss kiss kiss *make kissing sounds*
And put Him back again”
We were in the kitchen when my husband sang this hilarious song. He told us it had been taught to them in Sunday School when he was much younger and they all sang it with glee, not fully understanding the silliness of the lyrics of the song. Even my children found it ridiculous and couldn’t stop laughing. Put Jesus in a box?
But funny as it may sound, where is your little red box? Oh, the colour you have might be different but do you have a “little box”? That place you have put the One who is God yet became man to save you. He is the Saviour yet in your actions you seem to have stripped Him of all His power. You put Him in a box, bring Him out when you think there’s a problem He can solve, or when you feel like loving Him because you’re in a good mood. Your relationship with God is ‘needs dependant’ and ‘mood determined’. Little wonder you are living life frustrated and confused!
Listen, Jesus is more than all you make Him out to be. He is more than a problem solver or an ace card we whip out at the last minute. Yes, He comes through for us even in the face of deadlines but that’s not all He does! He’s Saviour, Defender, Provider, Comforter, Advocate, our Peace, our Wholeness…. the adjectives are limitless because He is our ALL in ALL. There is no end to who He can be in your life if you allow Him to. He said in His word that He has given us the same glory as of the Father and we are one with Him (John 17:22-24) If we are one, then it means we have access to all He has access to! We have all He has, and He has it all! If only we can stop limiting God in our lives, if only we can stop putting Him in a box and embrace all that He has for us…
Take the limits off. Break that box. Stop selling yourself cheap. Stop selling yourself short. God has much more in store for you than your mind can ever comprehend. If He’s able to do much more than we could ever ask or imagine, shouldn’t we just go ahead and ask/imagine the very best? He will give us much more than what we think is the best anyway and He does it freely!
1st Corinthians 2:9-12:
9 But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
So I ask again: Do you have a “little red box”? You do?
Then break it, smash it, throw it away… today!
