Todays Exhortation 9-Mar-2018
2 Corinthians 4:4 King James Version (KJV)
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
There have been days when I needed to buy something urgently but did not have any cash on me. On another day, I would be searching for something and discover either money in my pockets or money in a book which had always been in those positions but because I did not know, I did not use it when I needed it. There have also been times when I have searched for things in the dark but did not find them until day break when there was sufficient light. The things had been there all along but inaccessible to me because I had no light.
I have found that there have been several things I am ignorant of which have cost me dearly as a Christian. The word of God declares, “My people perish for lack of knowledge” Hosea 4:6. One tool the devil uses to keep believers in bondage is prevent them from seeing. He blinds the minds of unbelievers to keep them from seeing the glorious light of the Gospel of Christ which is able to free them.
As believers, our freedom toolkit is the scriptures. The word of God is able to cleanse us, help us, uplift us, show us our inheritance but if we do not go to the scriptures with the attitude of humility and with the help of the Holy Spirit, we will not see. There are many believers who are going through life without a knowledge of God’s great treasure for them.
One method I have found useful in seeking all that God has is the Pauline prayer in Ephesians 1: 18-20. Here Paul prays that we may have sight. I have found that praying it and meditating on it, muttering it out, causes light to break forth over issues I need clarity on.
Ephesians 1:18-20 King James Version (KJV)
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
It clearly details our need for sight. That we may know 1) The hope of his calling 2) the riches of the glory of his inheritance. 3) the exceeding greatness of his power to us who believe – the same power which raised Christ from the dead.
Many of us go around seeking for natural understanding but as God’s children, we will do well to seek His will and harness his awesome power. In praying these verses, we seek that His light will flood our spirits and we will know.
It is also a useful prayer for others, either when you are seeking the salvation of a loved one or praying when they seem to be making costly decisions.
Have you ever had a teacher try to explain a concept to you and suddenly you get it? You go “Oh I see!!!” That’s what will happen as you pray this prayer. You’ll suddenly have insight into situations, circumstances and what to do will be clear to you because you are praying His word and asking for sight. The solution had been there all along, you just did not have the ‘eyes’ to see.
Like blind Bartimaeus, let us pray this morning “Lord, that I might receive my sight”. And our Father of lights will flood our hearts with his light. Amen.
